Letting Go Of A Dream

I saw a post on twitter today about letting your dreams die.  When I first saw it I thought ‘how horrible.’  And then I thought about it.  Isn’t a dream just a plan, a roadmap, something to propel us forward and achieve?

I have been very entrenched in certain dreams.  And there is a ton of information and resources out there about how to pursue them and not let them go.  But I wonder if that is appropriate.  I am starting to believe not.  How can my dream of ten years ago not need reshaped?  We do not live in a static world so don’t I need to honor and treat my dreams in the same manner I do everything else?  More importantly isn’t a dream something composed of multiple efforts building into one?  That is to say, haven’t I accomplished part of my dream by working towards it?

I don’t think I am alone in the fact that sometimes I ‘dig in.’  But here is the thing…it doesn’t really serve us to focus so intently at the bugs on the windshield rather than the road ahead, now does it.

  1. Amen. Letting go of an old dream requires awareness & space, as we first have to stop moving to realize that we have evolved beyond a certain dream or goal.
